Going Through our Timeline

Over a half century ago, in the year 1958, in the province of Pampanga, specifically in a coastal municipality heard-of at that time as “Sexmoan” (interestingly known as “Sasmuan”), a group of fish port entrepreneurs, led by a certain Engineer Daniel Lorenzo Mercado, got their act together to establish a credit cooperative that grew in membership and became the Rural Bank of Sasmuan (Pampanga) doing business under the name and style of “SasBank”.

Incorporation papers reveal that it was born on the 5th of August 1968. After a decade, sometime in the year 1979, the Mercado group sold their majority holdings in SasBank to some prominent members of the Rodriguez-Laki family. Optimism in the year 1992 saw the establishment of a SasBank Branch in the municipality of Bocaue which is in the province of Bulacan.

More business confidence in 1994 led to establishment of a SasBank Branch in the municipality of Calumpit which is also in the province of Bulacan. Appetite for growth fed ambitions for venturing coastward to the municipality of Paombong, Bulacan, in 1997. As there were three SasBank Branches in Bulacan, from 1997 to 2009, while only one Branch (the Principal Office) was in Pampanga, the Bocaue Branch bade goodbye to Bulacan to start anew in the City of San Fernando (Pampanga), starting in the year 2010. Two years later, in 2012, we saw a consolidation between the Calumpit and Paombong branches = dissolving the Calumpit Branch and transferring its workforce to the Paombong Branch. Then, last but not the least, starting in the year 2018, while the entire banking industry was undergoing paradigm shift towards digital transformation, more than 80% of SasBank shareholdings were sold to the current management.
